Construction Journal Entry Week of 7/17/05

7/19-21/05 I went up to the property for 3 days: Tuesday through Thursday.

I had a lot of errands to do in the morning so I didn't arrive until 2:20. There was no frog in the gate lock can. Just as I was finishing lunch, Phil and Jean Geertgens drove up. They had been there earlier but since I wasn't there yet, they drove to Tall Timbers to kill some time. I didn't learn until later that Denny and Gayle King had also stopped by earlier and had also taken a drive to kill some time. I think they also went to Tall Timbers so they might have seen Phil and Jean and not realized who they were, and vice versa. After giving up on me and heading for home, they saw my pickup driving in as they were driving out. They didn't know it was me at the time so they kept going.

I had a nice visit with Phil and Jean and took some pictures. We had some good laughs over the false rumor of my death that had spread among our old colleagues. While they were still there, we heard quite a bit of gunfire on Dirtyface Ridge. Probably deer hunters sighting in their rifles. When Phil and Jean left, they headed for Nason Creek Campground where they planned to spend the night. I didn't get any work done that afternoon.

On Wednesday it was a pretty hot 80 degrees. I chinked three seams from Grid E2 to A2. During the work, Larry stopped by with the license renewal for my pickup. He watched me mix a batch of mortar and had a look at what I had done.

I fed the two adult jays but the juveniles were still too scared to land on my hands.

On Thursday morning, I cleaned the excess mortar off the logs I had chinked. I left for home at 2:00.
