Construction Journal Entry Week of 11/14/21

11/15-19/21 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I got a late start because of a doctor's appointment. I arrived at 1:55 in the rain. I brought my gear up in two trips, skipped raising the flag, built a fire in the stove, and then had my lunch and a nap. When I got up there was only enough time left to do some exercises.

On Tuesday it was 30 degrees outside and snowing lightly when I got up. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and did some more scraping on the seam in the bathroom.

After lunch and a nap, I practiced the piano, and spent the rest of the afternoon splitting firewood.

On Wednesday the temperature outside was 17 degrees and the weather was clear. It looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. After practicing the piano, I finished preparing the seam in the bathroom so that it was ready to paint. It was not perfect, but perfection would have required more work than I was willing to do. After cleaning up the mess, I painted the seam.

After lunch and a nap, I went outside and cut brush and surveyed the 1825' contour above the roadway for about 70 feet. This killed two birds with one stone. I needed to cut brush anyway and cutting it along the contour made it easier to lay out my rope and make the measurements.

On Thursday the weather was not as good. After practicing the piano, I filled out a huge sheaf of medical forms that I needed to sign up with a new doctor. Then I plotted the 70 feet of new contour on my map.

After lunch and a nap, I removed the masking tape from the seam in the bathroom and cleaned up the mess. I was happy with the way the wall looks. Then I put tools away and put things in the bathroom back the way they used to be.

Then I went outside and measured and established one more fixed point and plotted it on my map. I also measured for the 1825' contour line directly in front of the cabin and used the measurements to draw that contour along the cliff edge. I spent the rest of the afternoon reading. It started snowing late in the afternoon and it ended up snowing all night.

On Friday morning I woke up to 8 inches of new snow on the ground. By 9:00 o'clock it had stopped snowing and it was sunny. It was stunningly beautiful. After practicing the piano, I put on my work boots and went down to the truck. I needed to get my sorrel boots out of the truck for the season and while I was down there, I shoveled the snow off the truck.

I had an early lunch and left a message for Robert telling him I would not be up next week. While I was packing up to leave, Robert called back, and we updated each other on our activities. I left for home at 11:30 in time to get over the pass in case it was snowing and to get to a doctor's appointment in plenty of time. I had no problem getting to the appointment.
