Construction Journal Entry Week of 9/26/21

9/27-10/1/21 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived a little late at 12:35. Everything was wet, but it was not raining. I took my gear up in one trip, hoisted the flag, and built a fire. After lunch and a nap, I practiced the piano and then did some exercises.

On Tuesday it rained cats and dogs. I built a fire, practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and did some writing.

After lunch and a nap and some more piano practice, I figured out what I was going to do to fill the spaces at the drywall/log wall interfaces. I was going to build cardboard backing that I would cover with a thin coat of drywall mud flush with the surface of the existing drywall, and then paint. I planned to use rigid foam to keep the cardboard in place. I made the first two cardboard fillers and got them to fit nicely in the lowest space in the bathroom/utility room wall. After reading the label on the foam can, it seemed just too hazardous. After hearing Ellen's agreement when we talked, I abandoned the idea of foam altogether. It was just too toxic.

On Wednesday it was another rainy day, and I built a fire first thing in the morning. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and figured out a way to use cardboard to substitute for foam for filling the spaces and providing backing for the cardboard faces.

After lunch and a nap, I cut and placed the cardboard pieces and glued them in place for the first two feet of the bathroom/utility room wall. I was very happy with the result and the proof-of-concept.

On Thursday it was another rainy day, I built a fire, practiced the piano, and listened to the radio. After lunch and a nap, I made the cardboard pieces for the next two feet of space and ran out of glue just as I finished gluing them in place.

On Friday morning, I built another fire, practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and vacuumed the first floor. I left for home at 12:30 happy to have an inside job to do during the rainy weather.
