I went up to Camp Serendipity for four days: Monday through Thursday. It was a short week because I took the truck in for service on Friday.

Because of the holiday weekend, there was a huge amount of traffic westbound. There wasn't much going my direction, but I had to pay close attention to all that oncoming traffic. I arrived at noon, and everything was wet but fortunately it was not raining. I brought my gear up in three trips, hoisted the flag, and then had my lunch and nap.

When I got up, I did some exercises and then went out and whacked weeds from the hairpin turn up to the front "Legal landing". That drained both batteries for the day.

On Tuesday after practicing the piano I listened to the radio for a while. Then I went out and whacked the weeds on the upper roadway and the trail to the concrete stairs. That drained both batteries again.

Then I went to work making my hypercube and had a lot of trouble. After thinking about the problems, it dawned on me that my method of construction was bad and not workable at all. I had made the original hypercube 35 years ago and had forgotten how I did it. In the meantime, I had developed a method of making copper hypercubes which is very efficient, and I had tried to use that method on the wood dowels. I discovered it wouldn't work at all.

In the face of this failure, I decided to do the best I could with the dowels even though the result was ugly and misaligned. At least it presented the dowels in a rigid form that allowed me to try the new paint scheme. I more or less decided to make an entirely new wood hypercube doing it the way I had made the original.

On Wednesday morning, Dave called first thing and we had a great conversation. Then after practicing the piano, I got my crude hypercube ready to paint.

After lunch and a nap, I painted four of the eight colors on the hypercube. Then I went out and whacked the weeds from where I had left off up to the Privy and again drained both batteries.

On Thursday morning after practicing the piano, Robert called to catch me up on his activities. Then I finished painting the last four colors on the hypercube. I left for home at 12:45 understanding more than I had their week before.
