Construction Journal Entry Week of 3/3/24

3/4-8/24 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

Traffic was light and the road was good. I arrived at noon and found no changes in the snow except some shrinkage. It was still frozen almost solid.

I had a lot of gear, so it took me three trips up using the Trapper Nelson for two of them. I hoisted the flag, did some putting things away, and had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I practiced the piano and then put some more stuff away.

On Tuesday morning, the temperature was 12 degrees outside, and the sky was clear. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio a little, and then went for a walk to the grave. I started something new based on an article I read. It is called "rucking" and it simply means carrying some dead weight in a backpack as you walk. I decided to use a collection of small rocks I had and add another rock with each trip. It sounds like a good idea to me, and I started with one small rock and found that it didn't noticeably affect my walk. I'll build up gradually so I don't expect that the changes will be too noticeable for a while.

When I got back, I had my lunch and a nap. Then I did some work on my mortar stand and made some progress.

On Wednesday, the temperature was 11 degrees under a clear sky. Another cold sunny day. After practicing the piano, I walked to the grave after adding another small rock to my rucksack.

When I got back, I cut the 1/4" allthread to length that was already fastened in place at one end in my mortar stand as the axle the legs pivot around. Then I had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I listened to the radio and practiced the piano.

On Thursday the temperature outside was 12 degrees. Another clear, cold day. After practicing the piano, I walked to the grave with another small rock. When I got back, I had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I took a picture of the nearly-finished mortar stand. Then I practiced the piano.

On Friday I had an appointment at 1:30 in Seattle so I needed to leave early. Unfortunately, when I woke up at 4:30, I was having fairly severe vertigo. I tried to sleep it off, but that didn't work. Since I am convinced that the vertigo is from BPPV, I tried doing two Epley maneuvers which really helped. I got so that I could walk fairly well and get my breakfast, but I was losing time and getting off schedule.

I did my piano practice, which went very well considering, and then I started packing up to leave. I ended up getting on the road by 10:30. I was worried about making it the whole trip, but I did make it in time with a few minutes to spare. Except for the vertigo, it was another good week.
