4/21-25/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.
I arrived at 12:30 and brought my gear up in 2 trips. I hoisted the flag, had my lunch, and unpacked my gear. Then I walked to the grave and on my return I brought up two more bags of gear in that one trip. Then I had a nap which left enough time for my exercises.
On Tuesday morning when I got up the temperature was 23 degrees. I was surprised that it was still freezing overnight. I practiced the piano, worked on the puzzle, and then went outside and did a thorough cleaning job of the truck bed. I had hauled some fairly big rotten timbers from Seattle which had left a mess. When the bed had been swept out, I walked to the grave.
After lunch and a nap, I went into the woods and did my annual assessment of the Sequoia trees
, recording their bushiness and height. Then I made a device to keep the irrigation drip going into Paul's funnel
. I made it by bending a length of #3 rebar and anchoring it with a big stone. That left the stubby little irrigation hose positioned correctly over the funnel. I took a picture of the result.
On Wednesday morning when I got up, the temperature outside was still cold at 24 degrees. I practiced the piano, worked on the puzzle, and then walked to the grave.
After lunch and a nap, I tried to start the chainsaw and I was unable to do so, even though the saw had been sitting in the bright sun for couple hours and was nicely warmed up. Then I got the sawzall and used it to buck firewood from the fallen alder tree until I used up both batteries. Then I worked on the puzzle, practiced the piano, and had my dinner.
On Thursday morning when I got up, the temperature outside was 24 degrees again. I practiced the piano, worked on the puzzle, and walked to the grave. Then I drained the two batteries on the sawzall again by bucking more from the alder tree. Then I wheeled two wheelbarrows full of firewood from the alder tree to the cabin and stacked it under the scaffolding. Then I tried to start the chainsaw again and failed again.
After lunch and a nap I spent the afternoon working on the puzzle and practicing the piano.
On Friday morning, the temperature outside had warmed only to 26 degrees. It has been a cold week. I practiced the piano and in the process I felt something on my neck. I pulled a tick off my neck and added it to the collection of now 3 ticks in the sealed plastic bag. I listened to the radio and then walked to the grave and then had my lunch. Then I packed up my gear, locked up the cabin, and left for home at 12:50. It was nice to have a more normal week.
