7/14-18/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 5 days: Monday through Friday.
It was 84 degrees when I arrived at noon. I brought my gear up in one trip, hoisted the flag, unpacked, and then had my lunch and a nap. Then I walked to the grave and fought off a few mosquitoes in the process.
On Tuesday, I was up early and started work by wheeling two sacks of mortar mix from the truck up to the back stoop. Then I harvested, washed, and laid up a bunch of stones using batch #143. Then, after lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave.
On Wednesday, I was up and out early again. I selected, hauled, washed, and laid up some pretty big stones, none too big to lift, though. I mixed and used batch #144. After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave and saw John and his dog, Abby, who stopped and talked for a while. Then, on my return, I talked with Byron and Barb who stopped to chat. Five minutes later, I saw them coming back the other way. They said they had forgotten something and were heading back home.
When I got back, I filled and staged 8 water jugs.
On Thursday morning, I started by fertilizing Tiger. Then I loaded the 8 jugs into the truck in two trips using the Trapper Nelson backpack. On the last trip, I brought Cindy back with me. Then I prepared a batch of stones and laid them up in the wall using batch #145. Next, I found some time to practice a little on the piano before lunch and a nap.
When I got up, I took Cindy into the woods and pruned a bunch of the competition away from Paul, Runty, Dave, Earl, and Ellen. Ellen is improving, but slowly. It's still too early to tell if she will recover completely. The rest of the trees are looking robust and healthy.
Next, I walked to the grave. It was cool and breezy with only a few mosquitoes.
On Friday morning, I was up early and went out and harvested a bunch of stones. I prepared them and then laid them up in the wall using batch #146. Then I went in, cleaned up, put things away, and had my lunch. I left for home at 1:00 happy to have gotten four batches done for the week. Little by little the wall is growing. Life is good.
