8/11-15/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 5 days: Monday through Friday.
I arrived at noon, brought my gear up in 1 trip, hoisted the flag and then had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I walked to the grave in 91-degree heat. When I got back, I took a cool shower which felt good.
On Tuesday morning, I got up early. I went to work and collected stones from the front porch pile. I washed and stacked the stones on the scaffold and then remembered that I had brought a sack of mortar mix with me. I took the wheelbarrow down to the truck and then hauled the sack up to the work site and placed it on the back stoop in the usual place.
Next, I mixed up mortar batch number 154 and laid up a bunch of stones in the wall.
After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. It was still plenty hot. When I got back, I took another cool shower, and toward the end of it, the doorbell rang. I shouted out for whoever it was to come in and wait. It turned out to be Ken, who lives with Byron and Barb.
I finished my shower, got dressed, and sat down and talked with Ken. He had a plumbing problem, that after hearing about it, I was sorry that I couldn't help him solve it. He had to go to work so he left without further discussion. Then I proceeded on with the rest of my day.
On Wednesday, I was up early and started out by harvesting one stone. Then I mixed up mortar batch #155 and laid up that one stone plus a bunch of others that had been prepared earlier. Then I went in and filled and staged 6 water jugs.
After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. On the way back, a female bicyclist stopped to talk to me. Her name was Marilyn, and she spends most weekdays at their cabin. I gave her my card in case she is interested in learning more about me and my project.
On Thursday morning, I fertilized Tiger and then went outside and built a scaffold extension to reach around the corner of the right-hand wall. Some of the material stored back there had shifted and become a little dangerous. The new work fixes that.
Next, I harvested 5 stones and laid them in the wall using mortar batch #156. Then I went in and loaded the 6 water jugs into the truck. After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave.
On Friday morning, Dave called first thing, and we talked about his up-coming trip. He will be sailing in Vancouver, B.C. on Sunday and then he will drive to Camp Serendipity on Monday and arrive in the afternoon. Bill will be joining him, and we will have another wonderful visit for two days.
I called Ellen and gave her the new information about the visit. Then I did a little more work on the scaffold extension by adding screws to the planks to make them more secure. Next, I practiced the piano for quite a while and then got ready to leave for home. I had my lunch, finished packing, and left for home at 12:45. I am looking forward to next week.
