Construction Journal Entry Week of 6/27/21

6/28-7/2/21 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

It was 82 degrees outside when I arrived at 11:00 o'clock. The cabin was also warm at 78 degrees. I hoisted the flag, then had my lunch and a nap. When I got up at 2:15 it was 82 degrees in the cabin and 98 degrees outside. I spent the rest of the afternoon reading in front of a fan. I tried playing the piano, but it was too hot. At 4:00 o'clock the temperature outside was 102 and it was 88 degrees in the loft. I had my dinner before I took a shower.

On Tuesday the temperature outside was 58 when I got up. I had the windows open and a fan running on high all night, so it was 67 degrees inside the cabin.

I practiced the piano, had my breakfast, and then went outside and whacked weeds in the shade until I had drained both batteries on the string trimmer. Then I listened to the radio, did some reading, and had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I puttered around awhile, did some more reading, and practiced the piano. By 4:00 o'clock the temperature outside was 105. It was 82 degrees inside. I spent an hour or so reading down in the crawl space where it was nice and cool.

On Wednesday it was 60 degrees outside when I got it up at 5:45. Inside it was 70 degrees. I glued two places in the flooring where the heat had buckled it. Then I went outside and whacked weeds on the upper roadway draining both batteries.

I brought in two long planks and rested them on the tops of the loft balustrades to form a scaffolding so that I could install a light fixture over the staircase. I took a picture of that scaffolding. The temperature was 95 degrees outside and 82 degrees inside. I finished installing the light fixture and removed the scaffolding. I took a couple more pictures.

On Thursday I went back outside and whacked weeds again in the parking area until I had drained both batteries. Then I went into the woods, checked on Paul, and brought 5 gallons of water to Andrew. I was also happy to see evidence that the deer have been licking the salt block.

I practiced the piano, had breakfast, and then installed the baseboards inside the living room closet. I took a picture of that.

After lunch and a nap, I cleaned up and put stuff away and then played the piano some more.

On Friday morning I practiced the piano, had my breakfast, and then went out and adjusted Paul's irrigation valve. Somehow the flow had been reduced to a slow drip and I would rather have a thin stream.

I left for home at 12:45 hoping that the heat wave is finally over.
