8/6-9/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 4 days: Wednesday through Saturday.
I arrived at 12:45, hauled my gear up in 2 trips, hoisted the flag, and did some unpacking. Then I had my lunch and got ready to walk to the grave. Just as I started out, a loud thunderstorm started raining cats and dogs. I wasn't prepared for that, so I turned around and gave up walking. Instead, I finished unpacking, practiced the piano, and worked a little on the puzzle.
On Thursday, I was up early, watered Tiger, and then went out and installed about a dozen wall ties. Then I laid up a bunch of stones that were already prepared using mortar batch number 151.
Next, I filled and staged 13 water jugs. After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. When I got back, I practiced the piano and then took my shower.
On Friday morning I was up early again. I selected a big stone that needed to be cut lengthwise down the middle. I used a combination of the Bosch Bulldog, a hammer and chisel, and a big splitting maul to break the rock. It ended up breaking exactly where I wanted it to and left me with two nice stones for the wall. I laid up those stones along with some others using batch number 152.
After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. Then I loaded 13 jugs of water into the truck. Finally, I practiced the piano.
On Saturday I was up early again. I harvested a few stones from the stone pile, cleaned them, and laid them up using batch number 153. The one for the corner of the wall was a little too heavy for me to lift, so I rigged a come-along
up and used it to suspend and then lower the stone onto the bed of mortar. It worked slick and easy.
After practicing the piano for a while, I had my lunch and then packed up to go home. I left for home at 12:30. It was a short, but productive week and I was happy with it.
