4/17-19/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for three days: Thursday through Saturday.
This unusual week started out normal enough. On Monday morning I was on my way to Camp Serendipity and just before Skykomish the truck's transmission started misbehaving. I was able to pull in and park at the Ranger Station but the engine was hot and leaking fluids. I called AAA and had them tow the truck and me to my mechanic in Seattle. After a terminal diagnosis and some excellent research by Ellen, we ended up buying a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. We donated the old truck and had it towed away on Thursday morning. After a trip back home to pack my gear in the new truck I headed up to the mountains.
I arrived at 12:45 and brought my gear up in one trip. After having lunch, I walked to the grave and then had a nap. When I got up I practiced the piano and hoisted the flag. Bill
called and we had a nice conversation. He updated me on the condition of his two friends that were ill.
On Friday morning when I got up, the temperature outside was 26 degrees and the weather was sunny. I walked to the grave and on the way I talked to John O'Brien who was in his truck going somewhere.
After lunch and a nap, I filled and staged 13 water jugs. Then I loaded them into the truck. The truck bed has a tonneau cover so I trusted that the jugs wouldn't freeze overnight being under that cover.
Next I got the irrigation hose running so that it was dripping into Paul's funnel. I checked on all the Sequoia trees and was surprised at how robust they all looked. All, that is except for Ellen who is seriously compromised. But hopefully it will recover. Back at the cabin I practiced the piano and worked on the puzzle.
On Saturday morning the temperature outside was 46 degrees when I got up. I guess I didn't need to worry about the jugs freezing. I practiced the piano, worked on the puzzle, and walked to the grave. Then I had my lunch and closed off the week. I packed up my gear and left for home at 12:50 after a very eventful week.
